The Best Fry-Free Fries


Make crispy, delicious French fries without the hassle of deep-frying

You can enjoy French fries that are crisp and delicious by baking them in the oven and they are better for you, too. Not to mention the fact that your kitchen won't have that after-frying grease smell plus you'll enjoy far less cleanup time.

You can spice them up or make them plain. Starchier potatoes, such as Russets, work best. Also, you want to be sure to bake them at a higher heat (475 degrees) for best results.

Use a baking sheet and cover it with foil. Coat generously with cooking spray. Slice potatoes to any thickness desired. We prefer thinner sticks, but they taste great at any size. You can add any type of flavoring from chili powder to packets of taco seasoning. Our favorite is black pepper, chili powder, and a touch of cumin.

Place the fries and seasonings in a paper bag. Add a good dose of cooking spray and toss well. You can add olive oil to the contents instead of cooking spray. Turn out on the baking sheet and place in oven. Bake for about an hour or until crisp. Turn occasionally for even crisping.

Another way to crisp fries up is to coat them in whipped egg whites. Spray the pan and bake at 475 degrees.

Remove from oven and add salt if desired. Serve immediately.

Four large potatoes will provide about four servings.
